Description:
This painting is a result of the first lockdown period the artist experienced at her residency in Rostock, Germany. It has been introduced to the public just recently.
The painting reflects Maria’s first encounter in dealing with the global pandemic in 2020. The beautiful uprising spirits emerging from the bottom of the painting seem to meet half way with a conglomerate of uncertainty and confusion from above. A sense of overpowering force is in the way wanting to present itself as dominant, wild, unorganized and also a bit lost. Fine lines finding their way up from the bottom to the wild abstract knot, carefully exploring the unknown mess, create a connection. It seems like they start to intertwine and get acquainted with each other. Both elements seem to build the center and equally share the attention of the viewer. And although they seem to differ in appearance and feeling, they originated from the same mind.

"There's a flame inside of me. Always burning, always creating, always suffering, but never destroyed, never silenced, filled with love. It has always been there, growing stronger. There are no sacrifices anymore to a life, that is not mine! Because I burn!"
The Sacrificial Flame is the answer to an outcry depicting the artists feelings about her own artistic persona and the hardships, that came with it so far. What had been supressed and sacrificed for so long? What is the response to a world, that says "You won't make it!"? The Sacrificial Flame is the artist's flame. Transforming the artist into the ultimate sacrifice to the world.

Shortly painted before the artist fell ill with the Corona virus for many weeks "Eye of Phoenix" is one of the latest paintings by Maria Faltis. It depicts her outcry and longing for a world, that currently doesn't exist for herself. And although she feels lost and estranged to herself, there's hope. A power rising up from deep inside of her to break out and disrupt her current self. Rising like a phoenix and
observing the world around her with its fiery eyes. This artwork was inspired by the powerful musical piece "Stranger" by Dimash Kudaibergen, which the artist admires deeply.
